Customers Speak Up About Proposed Black Hills Energy Rate Increase in Wichita
Wichita, Kan. (KSNW) – On Tuesday, customers of Black Hills Energy were given the chance to provide their input on a suggested rate hike that might boost residential natural gas costs by approximately 5%, equating to an extra $11 each month.
The company has requested the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) to endorse a $17 million increase in rates to assist with covering escalating service expenditures, such as upgrades to infrastructure and transportation-related costs. An open forum took place at the Hughes Metro Complex in Wichita, allowing local residents to provide their input directly to the regulatory body.
Lou Ann Ward from Wichita stated, "In my view, these expenses are simply part of conducting business." She added, "All companies incur costs related to delivering their services. This does not imply that they have the right to bill customers both for using the service and for covering the expense of maintaining or providing it."
The Commission is likewise welcoming written feedback up until 5 p.m. on June 20, 2025. Submissions can be made electronically. KCC’s website , via postal service to the Commission’s Office located at 1500 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka, Kansas 66604-4027, or by contacting the KCC’s Office of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at telephone numbers 785-271-3140 or toll-free 800-662-0027.
