Locals Raise Alarm Over Proposed Crypto Facility

SHARP COUNTY, ARK. (KAIT) -- Locals are expressing worries over a potentially loud new addition to their community.

The cryptocurrency mining plant in Cave City isn’t causing any disturbance at the moment, yet locals close to where the facility is planned to be built are concerned about potential impacts.

Fusion Energy Grid LLC commenced construction on a cryptocurrency facility, with locals planning to express their worries at a gathering scheduled for Tuesday.

David Matthewson, who owns D & S Trailer, operates just down the street from where the upcoming facility will be located. Both he and his nearby residents have discussed the arrival of this new addition to their community.

"The primary issue is the noise. It seems like the noise was intended to be overpowering based on what everybody has mentioned. The sound, vibrations, the movement of the ground—those kinds of things," stated Matthewson.

However, Matthewson mentioned that the noise is not the sole issue bothering his neighbors.

"Heard folks questioning the power grid, whether it might affect the water supply, causing low water pressure. But I believe everything has already been thoroughly examined," he stated.

The condition of the facility is not the sole issue.

Matthewson and other residents nearby are concerned about the impact it may have on their properties and commercial establishments.

"When they include that and it reduces the value of our property by half — they should provide compensation or some form of remedy," he stated.

Matthewson was also considering the long-term future, including the potential annexation by Cave City.

"I believe they could reimburse us or do something along those lines regarding taxes," he stated.

Above all, Matthewson expressed his desire that the residents' opinions had been acknowledged prior to the arrival of the construction equipment.

"We can protest at the driveway until we turn blue, but they will proceed with building it regardless," he stated.

Residents in the area expressed that they want more meetings about the facility in the future.
