Renters Alarmed: Asbestos Exposure Feared in Senior Living Complex
The residents living at Branan Towers on Glenwood Avenue are speaking up not only for their own wellbeing but also for numerous other tenants who might be encountering exposure to asbestos.
"It's incorrect; we are upperclassmen. We can't take tomorrow for granted," stated one of the renters. Channel 2 investigative journalist Ashli Lincoln .
"I suffer from asthma and also have congestive heart failure. These conditions worry me," Deborrah Robinson-Holloway stated.
Tenants informed Lincoln that they initially learned of the asbestos issue through a letter, which stated that 11 floors in the north tower were affected.
The message indicated that contractors came across it during repair work on a damaged water pipe in February.
However, tenants argue that by then, holes had already been made in the walls and they were torn apart, causing concern that the asbestos might have been disturbed.
"The deeper they dig, the more disruption they cause," Holloway stated.

Tenants claim that the situation is exacerbated by the fact that only one floor has been moved.
A tenant who preferred not to reveal her face claims that the management assigned her to a dilapidated motel with filthy rooms, defective facilities, soiled linens, and signs of drug use.
"When I reflect on this, it fills me with such sorrow because not a single person from that location would have chosen to place their own mother in that situation," she stated.
Lincoln headed to the building hoping to converse with a manager, yet an employee declined to address any queries and failed to offer a media liaison.
A few hours afterward, a spokesperson from the management firm issued this statement:
“The safety and well-being The safety of our residents is our top concern. To address the damages inflicted by the recent flooding, we are implementing repairs using the most secure methods available. This unfortunately necessitates temporarily moving some residents out for approximately four days so we can replace the damaged drywall in their corridors. It’s important to note that none of the residences sustained water-related damage. We are offering relocated residents two options: they may choose to stay with relatives or acquaintances, or alternatively, we will cover all costs associated with lodging them at an adjacent long-term stay facility operated by Wesley Woods. Additionally, transportation services between the temporary accommodation and Branan Towers will be supplied by us, similar to what has been arranged for those choosing to remain at Branan Towers throughout these renovations.
If a guest complains about the hotel being unsuitable, we'll arrange alternative lodging. The particular guest was promptly transferred to a spotlessly clean room. They remained there for four days before heading back home last Friday.
The administrator of Branan Towers, Jia Jordan, along with another team member, has accompanied the residents to the hotel to confirm they were properly checked-in and their accommodations were tidy and satisfactory. Additionally, they have been checking back with every resident to verify that all concerns have been addressed.
