Southside Apartment Dwellers Urgently Seek New Homes as Eviction Deadline Looms in 30 Days
A residential building located on the south side has issued a 30-day eviction warning to all of its residents.
A lot of Homestead Apartment tenants argue that this isn’t sufficient time for them to locate a new residence.
Mary Torres receives a fixed income and has been residing at Homestead Apartments for more than ten years.
I don't wish to reside in my vehicle," Torres stated. "It's everything I own.
Similar to Torres, numerous inhabitants at Homestead Apartments located near Medina Base Road express fear about potentially losing their homes and becoming homeless.
“I have never experienced homelessness before,” Michelle Anzaldua stated. “I have always managed to take care of my family. I am just worried that we might not find a home that accommodates everyone.”
Anzaldua mentions that she got an email from Homestead Apartments recently, extending invitations to residents for a gathering about their tenancy. Since she couldn’t make it to the meeting, she decided to contact the leasing office instead.
They essentially stated that Homestead will be shutting down, resulting in all residents having to leave," Anzaldua explained. "Everyone needs to vacate the premises within 30 days of April 30th.
Anzaldua mentions that the apartment management indicated they have sister properties where one could potentially be transferred.
"The issue is that I have a three-bedroom place, and quite few properties come with three bedrooms," Anzaldua explained.
Carla Mills, who has been living here for 12 years, mentions that she recently extended her rental agreement. Similar to numerous tenants, she finds herself unable to afford relocating elsewhere.
It requires funds to cover everything," Mills stated. " Deposit charges, rental fees, application costs, and pet deposits. Where will people find the money for all these expenses? Please act responsibly, Homestead. If I must depart, grant me more than just 30 days' notice. That’s all I’m asking.
We contacted Homestead Apartment management several times. They assured us they would get in touch with us, however, we have not received any communication from them as of yet.
The community was informed via letters left at their doorsteps about an upcoming meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. the next day, where they can talk about moving arrangements.
